At its core, the AUC-33 Cupcake is a superb ukulele with a laminated spruce top and laminated mahogany back and sides, but it has a design twist: it features stunning artwork on the soundboard. No shortcuts were taken with the design of these instruments—they sound and play as well as they look.

Spruce top

Spruce is one of the most traditional woods used to make guitar tops. This is due to its stiffness and ideal strength-to-weight ratio. These characteristics give spruce a very dynamic sensitivity and a rich tone with many harmonic overtones.

Mahogany sides and back

Mahogany has long been a highly sought-after wood for the backs and sides of stringed instruments. Its warm, rounded bass tone provides a foundation for any musical style to reach the listener. The midrange is very strong and full-bodied, while the treble is delicate and very pleasant.

Open pore finish

An open-pore finish on a stringed instrument's sound box allows it to vibrate more freely. This gives the guitar a more resonant and responsive sound. It also keeps the stringed instrument's weight within limits, which in turn enhances playing pleasure.

People often think that plastic isn't a good material for making instruments. They associate it with cheap and low-quality materials. However, these ukuleles demonstrate that a good piece of plastic can certainly be used for instruments. The Flight Travel series ukuleles are made primarily of ABS plastic combined with a laminated top. The sound of this combination is both full and loud, with good projection thanks in part to the curved back. This creates an instrument that both sounds good and is durable, making it ideal for travel or for children to play.

Flight Concert Travel Ukuleles (TUC) have a slightly larger body and a slightly longer fingerboard than the Soprano Travel Ukulele, resulting in a bigger sound—all the great qualities of the TUS, but bigger. Players with larger hands will appreciate the extra fingerboard clearance.

The Flight TUC-55 Mango Concert Ukulele features a laminated mango wood. Mango is a popular wood, both for its visual appeal and its incredible sound.

The Flight TUC-50 uses laminated walnut for the soundboard. Walnut is stiffer and denser than mahogany, so the tone is brighter, as clear as koa. The beautiful grain, combined with the hand-drawn Salamander design, is popular worldwide.

The Cascha Carbon ukulele impresses with both its sound and appearance. Barnes & Mullins ukuleles are crafted using the finest exotic tonewoods. This not only creates a spectacular appearance but also ensures they sound as beautiful as they look. These ukuleles have a powerful, clear sound with excellent sustain thanks to the hardness of the woods used.

Koa

Koa is considered an exotic wood, and given its Hawaiian origins, it's easy to understand why. It's not only a sight to behold, but its sound easily matches its visual beauty. An instrument made with koa benefits greatly from being played. New koa can sometimes sound a bit harsh and stiff, but the more it's played, the better it will sound. Once a koa instrument is sufficiently "broken in," the sound opens up completely, becoming pleasant, rich, and clear with an abundance of resonance. The bass, in particular, becomes rich and full, while the overall tone truly comes alive.

Open pore finish

An open-pore finish on a guitar's soundboard allows it to vibrate more freely. This gives the guitar a more resonant and responsive tone. It also keeps the guitar's weight within limits, which in turn enhances playing pleasure.

Bocote

Bocote is considered an exotic wood and has both the tonal character and appearance to deserve this name. It's a wood with high density and stability, good sustain, and excellent resonance. All this creates a warm and powerful tonal character. It's a beautiful wood for making instrument sound boxes, and not just for its appearance.

Armrest

The built-in armrest makes these ukuleles exceptionally comfortable to play. The beveled edge at the playing position allows your arm to rest more comfortably over the edge of the ukulele. This not only improves playing comfort, but also enhances the ukulele's sound. Thanks to the beveled edge, your arm makes less contact with the ukulele's top, which in turn allows the top to resonate more freely.

Mahogany is often used for the back and sides of stringed instruments, but it also lends itself very well to the top of a stringed instrument. It produces a warm, more subdued tone with plenty of bass and a strong low-midrange presence. Mahogany's treble is less pronounced but certainly very appealing in timbre.
