While playing your records, and even while storing them, air pollution from outside (car exhaust, dust) and even from inside the house, such as cigarette smoking and cooking fumes, causes a tough film to form on your records. This film is difficult to clean and cannot be removed with just a record brush. During playback, the stylus scrapes away some of the residue that accumulates around the stylus tip, causing distortion during playback or even popping out of the groove. To prevent this, you should thoroughly clean your records at least once a year. This can be done with a record cleaning machine.
There are many models on the market, but the most affordable yet highly efficient model is the Knosti Disco Antistat. By washing your records with this machine, you can not only remove the aforementioned contamination, but also the residue of the former Lenco Clean fluid used in the past for wet playback. This fluid left a crystallized residue in the groove that was almost impossible to remove, so the records could only be played wet afterward. But now the Tonar Disco Antistat also does an excellent job of removing these crystals. At the same time, the TonarKnosti Fluid reduces the buildup of static electricity on the records.
